Makana Ranch House

Ever since Makana Ranch House opened in Kaimuki, I've been wanting to try there, especially since I heard so many great things about the owner's former Makana Market & Deli in Kaka`ako.

Despite a failed attempt to go there for lunch one day with Nat (they were closed for renovations), I successfully made a reservation for dinner with some friends and couldn't wait to try some of the menu items.

However, upon arrival, we were told by Chef Ignacio Fleishour that they were still figuring operations out, and we would be getting a set tasting menu.

He presented us with a bounty of food, most of which was locally-sourced.

Items included Molokai venison sausage, duck prosciutto, smoked marlin, raw crab, smoked mac n cheese, and venison chop.

Since I don't eat a lot of meat, I would have preferred the option to order off the menu.

The restaurant is still developing and fine-tuning operations.  It'll be interesting to see how they evolve.
