Visit Virginia: US Marine Corps War Memorial

It's a photo that many have etched in their minds - one captured by Joe Rosenthal of the Associated Press. The photo of US Marines raising a flag atop Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima during World War II was made into a memorial.

We visited the US Marine Corps War Memorial, where 32-foot high figures raise a 60-foot bronze flagpole. The flag never ceases flying.

The memorial was created to honor "the Marine dead of all wars and their comrades of other services who fell fighting beside them."
