Pioneer Saloon at SALT at Our Kakaako

When I heard of the restaurant "Pioneer Saloon", I wasn't thinking of local/Japanese style plate lunches, but that's exactly what Pioneer Saloon offers. I used to frequent their first location on Monsarrat back when they first opened, as it was the ideal place for us to go after morning surf sessions at the Elks Club.

They recently opened their second location at SALT at Our  Kakako, and it's just as popular and crowded as their original location. Parking is easier at SALT, thanks to its large parking garage (first hour is free with validation!), and it's a more convenient location for many who work/live in the urban areas of Honolulu.

I recently met a friend for lunch here on a weekday.  We both ordered the ahi katsu with katsu ponzu sauce and upgraded our rice to their popular shiso wakame seaweed white rice for $1 more.

This plate came with a generous serving of ahi katsu on a bed of greens, with a nice amount of pasta salad.  We both ended up taking a portion of our katsu home.

Pioneer Saloon is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
