Visit Indianapolis: Rhythm! Discovery Center

One of the most entertaining places we visited while in Indianapolis was the Rhythm! Discovery Center.

The Rhythm! Discovery Center is the world’s first fully-interactive drum and percussion museum.

That's right - it's fully-interactive, meaning visitors can beat their hearts out on all sorts of instruments!

There is an educational aspect of the Rhythm! Discovery Center as well, as the center showcased all sorts of percussion instruments in all shapes, sizes, and materials in Instrument Origins, and detailed how rhythm was important to various cultures as visitors walked through the Time Tunnel.

Bass Log Drum in the Time Tunnel
Spark! From Tubes to Chips explores the evolution of electronic percussion, and And the Kitchen Sink shows how anyone can make music with everyday objects!

In Groove Space, the kids really got their groove on, as they tried out a variety of different instruments, and even went into the Wenger practice rooms to jam on some drums!

A lot of the instruments are hands-on, however there are some that visitors are not allowed to touch (there are signs).

As you can imagine, it can get very loud in the Rhythm! Discovery Center, so earplugs are offered complimentary, and for those kids who need over-ear headphones (like my son, who is very sensitive to loud sounds), you simply need to leave your ID with the front desk to borrow some.
My kids just had an absolute blast at the Rhythm! Discovery Center!  My husband (who played the drums in high school band) and I really enjoyed ourselves too.

I had no idea a museum dedicated to percussion could be so much fun!

Definitely check out the Rhythm! Discovery Center if you're in Indy!
