Keiki Swap Meet at the Hawaii Children's Discovery Center

As a supporter of the Hawaii Children's Discovery Center, I had heard about their Keiki Swap Meets they host in the Kakaako Waterfront Park next door.  Overwhelmed by the amount of toys taking space in my home, I decided to sign my 8 year old up.

Registration was easy.  I just downloaded the form from the website and mailed it in with my $3 (per child) for registration.  Only children's items may be sold and all children must be accompanied by an adult.  Because we were flying by the seat of our pants, I decided to start simple and kept our items for sale to stuffed animals and some lunch containers.  We priced everything $1 and under.

We made sure we had enough small bills and coins to make change and we brought a couple of bags if our customers needed them.  In the end, my daughter made about $20 and we still had quite a few stuffed toys left over that we will donate.  Both of us had a lot of fun at this event.  I enjoyed watching her interact with customers and think that this experience has taught her some confidence.  She's already looking forward to the next Keiki Swap Meet.  Keep checking the website for information on the next one.

Sellers set up early from 9am.  Swap Meet hours are 10am-1pm.
