Rijo Restaurant

I've been wanting to try Rijo Restaurant for a while now, so I was excited to meet a friend there for dinner for a much-needed "Moms Night Out" after a very crazy week with the boys now that school is out.
Dungeness Crab Cake with Truffled Egg Tofu

Two Way Saikyo Yaki Butterfish
The crab cakes were highly recommended by our server, and I'm glad we ordered it.  Two deep-fried crab cakes were served with a truffled egg tofu.  It was full of flavor and simply delicious.

I've only tried butterfish once before, and since the only chicken entree (I often eat chicken) didn't really spark an interest, we asked the server for her recommendations on entrees.  She said the butterfish was very popular, so I decided to give it a try (my friend ordered it as well).

The butterfish is served in a nabe bowl with Asian herbs, shimeji, and shredded nori, along with a teapot of dashi consomme.

When our bowls were brought to our table, the staff poured some of the dashi in our bowls for us, and we could add more as we pleased.

The butterfish was fantastic. Being that I never ate an entire butterfish dish before (I've only eaten a couple of bites of it), I surprised myself when I ate everything in the bowl. It was that good!

My friend ate her entire bowl of butterfish as well.

The butterfish by itself was seasoned perfectly, and my friend stated it was the best butterfish she ever tried. The dashi made it even more incredible.

Normally I don't dare skip desserts, but my friend and I were beyond stuffed after eating the butterfish, so we declined.

Service was excellent, and the food was delicious. It was a great dining experience, and I can't wait to dine at Rijo again!
