Our Family's Summer Vacation at the Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa

A view of the beautiful Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa and Ka'anapali Beach.

I love island hopping.  Each island of Hawaii is so different, that it's a must to visit them all.  One of my goals is to teach my children to be appreciative of their home state and that includes exploring the outer islands.  We live on Oahu and since my son, Cade, has only been to Lanai and the Big Island, we decided that our summer vacation should include a visit to the island of Maui.

We chose to stay at the Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa because of its great location right on Ka'anapali Beach and its close proximity to the legendary Black Rock (Pu'u Keka'a).  Ka'anapali Beach is one of Maui's signature beaches and was once named America's Best Beach.  Dividing the beach in half is Black Rock, what ancient Hawaiians believed to be a jumping off place for spirits.  The Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa retells the story of King Kahekili through a nightly Cliff Dive Ceremony at sunset.  This is a 50 year old tradition that has drawn visitors from around the world. I loved that we were staying at a resort that has a deep history and offered such cool cultural activities.

The resort graciously upgraded my family of four to one of their Ohana (Family) Suites.  Ideal for families, these 665-square-foot suites feature two double beds and a deluxe pull-down wall bed.  My kids were amazed by the bed in the wall and argued who would get to sleep in it (my oldest won).  The suites are also equipped with a spacious bathroom with double sinks and a separate shower and tub which made bath time and getting ready a breeze.

The suite also comes with a refrigerator, wet bar and microwave which is so convenient for families.  Our three nights in this suite were amazing and made me really appreciate the extra space since we are used to staying in a standard resort room.  It made me realize a family of four could really benefit with some additional space and the Ohana suite made our time inside our room a lot more comfortable and fun.

Every guest room at the resort is newly renovated with breathtaking views and 83% of the resort's 508 rooms and suites have ocean views!  The resort features a 142-yard fresh water swimming lagoon, outdoor jacuzzi, and keiki (kids) pool along with a fitness center available 24 hours and the Maui Nui Luau which shares with its guests the music, dance and history of the islands.  The resort has so much to offer!  Guests can also enjoy a number of cultural activities like making a flower lei, learning a hula dance or how to play a tune on the ukulele.

And let's not forget about the beach!  With 23 ocean-front acres directly on the beach, there is so much to be explored.  Snorkeling around Black Rock is ideal due to the clarity of the water.  The kids had a great time playing in the waves and on the sand.  It was especially memorable for us because their Dad decided to take a leap off the infamous rock!  He admitted it was a little scary, but a great experience.

We had the best time exploring Maui while staying at the Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa.  The resort is so relaxing and great for both couples and families.  I found it so peaceful to take a afternoon stroll on the grounds while enjoying the sights of the beautiful ocean and soaking up some sunshine.  We had an amazing family vacation here!

Such a nice warm welcome!  Milk and Cookies!

Large and spacious living space.  Beautiful colors.

The kids were surprised to see a connecting door from the bathroom to the bedroom.

Sleeping on these double beds were like sleeping on clouds!

Lauren won the right to sleep in the pull down bed.  Loved this!

Having a microwave, wet bar, and fridge made meals convenient when we didn't feel like eating out.  A separate bathtub, shower, and double sinks made getting ready easy for a family of 4.

The gorgeous view from our lanai.

The kids enjoyed the pool, slides and lazy river.  It's also a quick walk to the beach.

Beach time!

They had so much fun getting washed up by the waves.

Can you see him?  My husband taking a dive off Black Rock.

My family had a great time at the Maui Nui Luau!

Thank you so much to the Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa for extending a media rate,  upgrading us to an Ohana Suite, and hosting the kids' first ever luau.  We had the best time!  All opinions are entirely my own.
