Nat's take on Golden Pork Ton-kotsu Ramen Bar

Before Golden Pork Ton-Kotsu Ramen Bar opened its doors to the public, people were raving about how good it is.  The owners gave the media a private invite-only preview of their offerings (click here for Hawaii Mom Blog's very own Gem's review), and I saw a lot of positive feedback on social media. After it's March 29 opening, I saw a lot of positive reviews on Yelp as well.

I normally like to wait a few weeks after a restaurant's grand opening to try it out, but I had to break my self-imposed rule for this restaurant because I am a huge fan of ramen and the pictures and rave reviews on social media were piquing my interest.

The restaurant opens at 11:30 am daily but I arrived 15 minutes early to make sure I was one of the first groups to get seated.  The restaurant quickly filled up after the doors opened, so if you want to make sure you get in on the first seating, come before 11:30.

We ordered two appetizers (gyoza and pork buns), and tsukemen. Diner J and Diner A ordered the Black Garlic Tsukemen, and I ordered the Golden Pork Tsukemen.  We were all in love with our tsukemens after just the first bite! Lots of flavor and the noodles hold the broth well.

Halfway through our tsukemens, the gyozas arrive.  Hot, crispy, and plump.

As we neared the bottom of our bowls of tsukemen noodles, the pork buns arrive.  A little late to the party, but that is to be expected as a new establishment.  The pork buns were pretty good, but I would not order them again. It carries a high price tag and they weren't anything special.  Stick with the traditional gyoza and you can't go wrong.

Footnote: Supposedly you can eat the tsukemen in 3 stages, but you need to ask for the wadi soup in order to do it.  Check out Brandon S.'s review on Yelp and ask your server about it the next time you order the tsukemen.

At 11:15, there were people waiting for the doors to open
