Uncle Clay's House of Pure Aloha

Since we were nearby, we decided to take the kids to Uncle Clay's House of Pure Aloha (HOPA) for some shave ice.

HOPA does not use any artificial ingredients in the shave ice syrups. Everything is all natural, which results in light, subtle flavors.  I really enjoyed the Strawberry Shave Ice, and the Mochi and Dream Sauce made it even better.

My middle son opted for ice cream, which was made by Tropical Dreams (a Hilo-based company).  The ice cream was delicious.

What really impressed me about HOPA was not the use of all-natural ingredients in the shave ice syrups (although I do love that the syrups are all-natural), but the aloha spirit that was evident during our visit.

I met Uncle Clay and was able to chat with him for a few minutes, and his passion for what he does was so obvious in just that short conversation.

He truly is the epitome of aloha.

Even if you're not a fan of shave ice or ice cream, step inside HOPA to experience what aloha is all about.
