Off-Island: Ramada Maingate at the Park

Our family once again stayed at the Ramada Maingate at the Park (Ramada Maingate ATP) during our most recent trip to Southern California to visit the Disney Parks.

We stayed there over the summer, and although there were a few differences from our last stay, overall we we once again had a great stay, and would still highly recommend Ramada Maingate at the Park to anyone who is planning to visit Disneyland and is looking for a reasonably-priced hotel with free parking, free continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and outstanding service.

Below is a more detailed review of our stay.

Room:
We got the exact same room as we stayed in the last time - a 2 Queen Bed Deluxe Room ($119/night; I compared prices for other hotels nearby and many were charging higher prices for the same type of room, and most charged for parking).  It was nice and clean (the carpet actually seemed a lot cleaner than our last stay), cute towel animals once again greeted us, and comfortable beds with plenty of pillows awaited us each night after spending long hours at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.

I love how the rooms come with a mini refrigerator and microwave (perfect for all the leftovers we usually ended up with after dining out), and the air conditioning worked great and cooled down the room fairly quickly (which was really nice since there was a major heat wave).

Another great thing about our room was the view of the fireworks.  You can watch the fireworks from various areas on the property, and several other rooms have a great view as well.  We could easily watch the fireworks through our window or from the balcony (shot below is taken from the balcony).

There were a couple of differences on this stay from our last stay, however.

The most notable difference, and a very positive one, is the updated TV.  They now have a flat panel in the room, which DH was very pleased with (even DS1 noticed it was a new TV).

Also, although we could hear very little noise coming from vehicles in the parking lot or other guests, whether next door or passing by our room, what we could hear late at night were crickets - inside our room.

Walking through the property at night we could hear lots of crickets outside, but there happened to be a couple in our room as well.  One seemed to be coming from/near the air conditioner, and the other was coming from the bathroom.

I actually found the cricket in the bathroom one morning.  It was crawling on the bathroom floor (I think it came from the space in the bottom of the bathroom door frame) and we quickly disposed of it so it didn't bother us the remainder of our stay.

I could never find the one near the air conditioner, but fortunately the noise of the air conditioner was usually able to drown that cricket out.

I know crickets are just a part of nature, and Ramada Maingate ATP does use a company to provide pest control, but sometimes an occasional bug could still sneak into the room.  We had no problems just dealing with the crickets, but I know if it came to a point where they were causing a problem for us, the staff would've assisted us immediately in trying to resolve the problem.

Breakfast:
The complimentary continental breakfast, served in the pool house daily from 6:30am-9:30am, consisted of donuts, bagels, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, fruits, biscuits, gravy, bread for toast, assorted condiments, orange juice, milk, and coffee.  Items were quickly replenished if running low, and the staff overseeing the breakfast was always very friendly.

Because of the limited seating and how crowded it could get in the pool area, we did what we did the last time - take the tray from our room and load it with breakfast for the family to take back to the room.

Housekeeping:
With the exception of forgetting to leave us towels and washcloths one day, housekeeping was great.  They were always friendly and prompt.  I also thought it was great how they always ended up giving us "extra" of something just in case.  For instance, on one occasion we asked for an extra towel, and they gave us two.  On another occasion we asked for an extra roll of toilet tissue, and they gave us two rolls.

Other amenities/services/etc.:
  • Free Parking: We never had an issue with parking.  There are a lot of stalls and we were always able to find parking close to our room.
  • Lobby: There is a small lobby with seating and a flat screen TV.  During a housekeeping visit to our room we went to the lobby to wait and they were playing a Cars DVD, which my boys loved!
  • Pool:  I wish I had brought swim clothes for the boys, because it sure was HOT (100 degrees!) and I know they really would've enjoyed the pool as did the many other families we saw there.
  • Laundry Facilities, Mini Mart, Disneyland Ticket Sales, Pizza Shop, and more can also be found on the property.
And once again, the service was just terrific.  Andrew, Katie, Aaron, Jessica, including several housekeeping and maintenance employees who I was unable to get the names of, were just a few of the many employees I came in contact with prior to and during our stay that provided fantastic, friendly service.
We really enjoyed our stay once again.

Thank you to the Ramada Maingate at the Park for providing two complimentary nights and a discount.  All opinions are my own.
