I remember going to the symphony a lot as a child for school field trips . . . sitting at the Blaisdell Concert Hall, and being entranced with the performances. Fast forward a few decades later, and I never expected to be sitting in the seats watching my own child play along with the symphony, which is what happened this past summer.
To feel the support of the community, hear the parents and relatives cheering on their kids, and see the huge grins on the kids' faces (my son even got two solos which he was stoked about) - it was such a memorable night.
Enjoy timeless classics performed by Youth Symphony I (YSI), Hawai'iʻs premier youth orchestra, led by Maestro Joseph Stepec and featuring over 85 of the stateʻs top high school musicians.

The experience had such a profound impact on our family, especially my son. I even know people who went to the concert simply to support the program (with no kids of their own in the program) - because that's just how amazing Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony is and what they do for young musicians.
Through programs such as PMI, the Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony helps to ensure all youth have access to resources and tools to help foster their love of music, while bringing joy to the community and people of all ages and backgrounds.
Because music not only transcends cultures and generations, but also bridges them.
On October 19 at Halekulani Hotel, Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony's annual fundraising gala, the Sunset Soirée, in conjunction with He Makana O Nā Mele (The Gift of Music), takes place in support of young musicians.
