Visit Hilo: Tenkatori

Over recent weeks, whenever I'd go to Big Island Top Dogs, I noticed a nearby restaurant going through a renovation.  Scrolling through social media one day, I saw Living Hilo Style post about Tenkatori, which opened up in that space!

Tenkatori specializes in Chicken Karaage, so of course we had to get some.

Chicken Boneless Thigh

The fried chicken (thighs, flat wings, or breast sticks) come with a choice of sauce (we chose Yuzu Aioli).

Although I thought the chicken had a strong ginger taste, the chicken was perfectly cooked.  The chicken was tender on the inside, and nice and crispy on the outside.  I've had many chicken karaage dishes at other places where the chicken was not moist or the coating was just too dry and bland, but this was some great fried chicken!

The menu is very limited, and even some items on the menu were either sold out or "coming soon," but you'll really just want the Chicken Karaage anyway.

The Chicken Karaage is made-to-order, so there may be a wait, but it's worth it.
