Paradise Jerky

Thank you to our sponsor for the complimentary samples!

Beef jerky is one of my go-to snacks since it's high in protein, low in carbs, and is very portable (no need to keep it cold and it usually comes in a ziplock bag. There are a lot of local companies that make beef jerky in Hawai, and I'm excited to introduce you to one local company that makes ultra thin, learn, crispy beef jerky.

Their small retail shop is located in the heart of Waikiki, on a small side street. Look for the large red sign with the words "beef jerky". If you're driving here, you can park in the "loading zone" right in front of the shop.

They currently sell three flavors - wafu, smoked pepper, and original.

Individual bags sell for $20 ($15 for Kamaaina), or you can save by buying them in bundles (2 for $35, 6 for $100, 10 for $150).

Paradise Jerky uses only the best cuts of USDA choice Angus Beef. They trim off the fat as much as possible, and handcut each slice. Here are close-ups of each flavor:

Look how razor thin their jerky is. It's definitely the most thin and crisp jerky I've ever tried. No more chunks of beef stuck in my teeth and no more sore jaws! It's as easy as eating potato chips.

The jerky is made weekly in small batches, so freshness is not even a question. You can tell their jerky is made with great care and with the best of ingredients.

Which flavor is the best? It's hard to say, because honestly they're all really good! I thought the smoked pepper would be too spicy for me (I don't like spicy foods), but I was able to tolerate the spiciness and thought it actually had a nice kick to it.

These bags of jerky are great for gifting to friends and family as omiyage!

They also make beef jerky for dogs. It's made of 100% beef - no fillers!

Paradise Jerky makes their jerky at their former retail kitchen on Young Street (2074 Young Street), and if you aren't able to get to Waikiki, you can buy their products at the Young Street location provided they are there (typically Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays). Call ahead (808-312-1019) before heading down there.

The Waikiki store is currently open 7 days a week. You can also order online on their website.
