Omakase by Aung

For the husband's birthday, I wanted to take him somewhere special, and where we've never been before. Since we both love good sushi, I asked a couple of friends for their recommendation where is the best place for omakase. Omakase is a style of dining where the sushi menu is set by the chef. My friends all recommended Omakase by Aung, which is by reservation only. What's great about Omakase by Aung is that he offers both lunch and dinner seatings. And, he's BYOB.

Omakase by Aung is located on the corner of Kapahulu Avenue and Campbell Avenue. There are a couple of parking stalls behind the building, but since the lot was full, we parked on the street one block away from the restaurant.

At 1 pm we were invited into the restaurant and took a seat at the counter. Chef was busy preparing for our experience.

Here's what we enjoyed during our 1 1/2 hour omakase experience:

Chef Aung Lawalt was very friendly and chatty as he carefully crafted each course for the 6 of us. It was a fun and intimate dining experience and I can only imagine how much more fun it is when you dine here at night with a group of friends (the counter seats up to 12) and your own alcohol.
