I wasn't an adventurous eater growing up, and I wasn't exposed to a lot of different cuisines and cultures, so I make sure to encourage my kids to try all sorts of foods. While in Austin, we dined at
Suerte, a restaurant that focuses on masa, and it's where my kids tried goat and beef tongue for the first time.

Goat Barbacoa |
When the Goat Barbacoa was presented to the table, it immediately reminded me of laulau! I thought the goat was a little too gamy, but it was a great experience for my kids, and it was neat to be able to discuss the similarities between Mexican and Hawaiian food.

Tlacoyo de Lengua |
The Tlacoyo de Lengua consisted of smoked beef tongue topped with grilled kale and smothered with caledera cheese. The kids ate it up, and if I didn't tell them what it was, I'm sure they would have thought it was just regular beef.

Sunchokes y Beets |
Confit sunchokes sat in a pool of vibrant beet mole, along with pickled beets and sunchoke chips. Cotija finished off the dish.

Huarache |
The Huarache is a seasonal dish. If you love mushrooms, you'll love this dish, with a thin layer of masa topped with mushrooms,

Suadero Tacos |
This was my favorite dish of the night. Incredibly tender and flavorful confit wagyu brisket with a black magic oil, avocado crudo, onions, and cilantro made for such a delicious taco. I could've eaten all of them myself!

Frijoles Envenenados |
The family devoured the Frijoles Envenenados - refried pinto beans topped with chorizo-bacon, guajillo chile, and fried oregano. Such a delicious dip!

Sweet Papas |
I loved the Sweet Papas, which was simply prepared grilled, and accompanied by a lemon aioli and drizzled with a habaƱero-garlic oil.
Service was prompt and friendly, and I'd definitely recommend Suerte if you're looking to enjoy a nice fusion of Mexican and Texan cuisine.
