Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival Announces 2020 Lineup of Events

Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival (HFWF) announces its 2020 schedule of events in support of agriculture, restaurant and hospitality industries that are struggling to survive amid the restrictions the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to our world. In keeping with its mission, the premier epicurean event in the Pacific will highlight Hawai‘i’s culinary excellence with a star-studded lineup over a three-weekend program. The Festival will host nine intimate dining experiences on O‘ahu from November 6–November 21, 2020, at Hawai‘i restaurants showcasing local and guest celebrity chef talent. Tickets go on sale Saturday, September 19, 2020.

“For Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival, our lifeline has depended on our local culinary, agriculture and hospitality industries — and it’s our turn to support the farmers, chefs, restaurants, food service employees, students, and people who call Hawai‘i home,” says HFWF Chief Executive Officer Denise Yamaguchi. “Now more than ever, the community must work together to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic that has impacted our everyday lives.”

HFWF considered cancelling its events, but decided to proceed with exclusive dining experiences because the local restaurants, as well as our visitor industry and other small businesses, need the community’s support to survive now more than ever.

All proceeds from this year’s festival will directly benefit our agricultural, restaurant, food service and hospitality industries, and their employees. Co-founded by two of Hawai‘i’s own James Beard award-winning chefs, Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong, HFWF20 will spotlight local chefs and internationally-renowned culinary masters to create once-in-a-lifetime collaboration dishes with locally-sourced products, including: Michael Chiarello, Dean Fearing, Chris Kajioka, Ed Kenney, Nancy Silverton, Ming Tsai, Jonathan Waxman, and more. There will also a tribute to the late Floyd Cardoz to honor the notable Indian chef for his contributions to the culinary world posthumously.

The theme for each dinner was created based upon the relationship(s) between local and guest celebrity chef talent, with a curated wine, beer or cocktail pairing menu option to perfectly complement the delectable dishes from the culinary masters. Safety of our attendees and participants is our number one priority. Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and will abide by the most current restrictions and guidance provided by the local county and state governments to ensure proper screening and social distancing protocols.

The 2020 lineup also includes the Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival Roy’s 23nd Annual Golf Classic to support IMUA Family Services. The celebrity chef golf tournament will take place Friday, November 13, 2020, at Ka‘anapali Golf Course + Roy’s Kaanapali on Maui.

Now in its tenth year, HFWF has expanded from a 3-day festival with 30 chefs in Waikīkī to the state’s largest food and wine event. In 2020, HFWF modified its schedule to ensure the safety of participants and attendees, while supporting the local Hawai‘i community.
