Hidden Gem: Café Kalawe

Café Kalawe is a hidden gem in Kaneohe, literally.  It is located in an office building on the corner of Kahuhipa and Kawa Streets, with no signage on the outside. But just look for Territorial Savings on the corner of Kawa and Kahuhipa Streets, and you're there.  Enter the building and you'll find the restaurant on the first floor.  It's a small establishment with a few 4-tops inside and a couple of tables outside. If you come with more than 4 people, you will need to sit on different tables.

Café Kalawe serves up local favorites like saimin, shoyu chicken, chopped steak, hamburger steak, omelettes, pancakes, hamburgers, etc.

Unfortunately we came close to closing (one hour before?!) and they said they had shut down the saimin already (whatever that means), so my son had to settle for a pancake, which was quite large and very fluffy.

I opted for the mini chopped steak with green salad and loved how the salad came with won ton chips, kamaboko, and their homemade dressing. It was a nicely portioned plate of food for lunch.

We will definitely be back to try more things on their menu!
