Origin Hawaii

This tiny bake shop named Origin Hawaii has been on my radar since my friend posted their baked goods on Instagram a few months ago. I tried to go once on my way back from the Farm Fair last month, however they were closed by the time we got there.  But a few weeks ago one Saturday morning my sons and I were adventuring in the Heeia area, and I decided on the spur of the moment to take a drive out to Waikane to pick up some breakfast.

Yes, that is a shipping container, located on the corner of Kamehameha Highway and Haupoa Street in Waikane.

It is located on the grounds of Nona's Orchids on Kamehameha Highway (the owner's grandmother owns the Nursery). The first thing you see as you enter the bake shop is the display of plants, all available for purchase.

Next, you'll come across a small display of French-inspired pastries that are individually-bagged and ready to be enjoyed.

Scones .. cookies ...  almond cakes ... croissants ...

and next to the register is where I found the brioche au nutella  - I just had to try one.

I picked up three pastries total - the brioche, the chocolate croissant, and the raspberry/orange almond cake.

My sons immediately grabbed the almond cake and it was gone in less than 60 seconds.

They let me have just a tiny bite, and I regretted buying just one of these.

I saved the chocolate croissant and brioche for later - here's what they looked like.....

In case you were wondering, the pastries are baked up the street in a kitchen, not in the shipping container.

Can't wait to return in August to try their Tiramisu cookie, and maybe then I'll get more than one bite of their almond cake!
