Ulupo Heiau

Behind the YMCA Kailua is a large heiau called Ulupo Heiau. The heiau itself stands 30 feet tall and measures 140 feet by 180 feet.

We explored the grounds after swim class on sunday afternoon and were amazed at the heiau itself, along with the picturesque views of the Kawai Nui Marsh and agricultural terraces.

If you're ever on the windward side, I highly encourage you to stop and explore this historical site! There is plenty of free parking and you are free to walk the grounds. Just please be mindful and respectful while you're here.  To find Ulupo Heiau, look up the YMCA Windward branch on your GPS and at the entrance to the parking lot, hang a left.
