Visit Kyoto: Kinkakuji, Golden Pavilion Temple

Kinkakuji or the Golden Pavilion is a very popular site to visit in Kyoto.  The top two floors of the zen temple are entirely covered in gold leaf.  While you cannot enter the temple, an admission fee allows you to take a path to view the temple and walk through the gardens.

To get to the temple, we took a train to Emmachi station.  From the station, it is about a 10 minute ride by city bus (204 or 205) to the temple.  We learned that you enter the bus from the back entrance and exit through the front.  When you exit, you drop your bus fare so make sure you have exact change.  If you don't, there is a 1000 yen breaker under the coin deposit, but they encourage you to do this well before your stop.

The path you follow will give you close views of the temple.

For a 100 yen, my daughter got a fortune.  We also bought omamori or Japanese charms for good luck.
