Breakfast at Basalt

On Mother's Day morning we went to Basalt in Duke's Lane Market and Eatery for breakfast.

Lemon Poppy Seed Quick Bread

Meat & Cheese Omelet

Loco Moco

Croque Madame

Basalt Breakfast

Vanilla-Orange Brioche French Toast
There was a special Mother's Day menu, which included complimentary Lemon Poppy Seed quick Bread with Macadamia Nut Honey Butter.  Such a yummy starter!

The Basalt Breakfast included two eggs, country-style potatoes, and choice of meat.

The Loco Moco consisted of bacon fried rice, wagyu beef patty, mushroom gravy, grilled onions, and an egg.

The Meat & Cheese Omelet was stuffed with bacon, ham, sausage, Portuguese sausage, and jack and cheddar cheeses.

I had the Croque Madame.  Maple honey ham and Gruyere cheese was sandwiched between two thick slices of brioche, and topped with a bechamel sauce and fried egg.  It was very filling and tasty.

Overall I thought the food was good and the prices were reasonable, considering the location.  The service started out great, but once our plates were cleared, and even after asking our server for our check, it never came!  After 10 minutes, I finally asked the hostess for our check.  Soon thereafter, our server asked if anyone brought our check yet.  I told her I requested it from the hostess, who immediately brought it to us, just as a different server was bringing out another copy of the check.

I would definitely dine at Basalt again - and hopefully next time I'll get the check in a more timely manner.
