A Taste of Hilo

Korean Style Braised Pork "Chalupa"

Randomly, I saw an announcement in the Star Advertiser for A Taste of Hilo - a fundraiser event for the Hawaii Community College culinary program.  I checked the date and as luck would have it, I would be in town.

Sponsored by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hawaii, the Hilo culinary event is in its 19th year!  The annual event showcases the culinary skills of more than 35 chefs, restaurants, and patisseries as well as locally crafted, beer, wine, and sake.  Each year, a different local ingredient is featured.  This year's event featured pigs raised using natural farming practices which eliminates the need for antibiotics, vaccines, and hormones.

I really enjoyed the event and had a great time sampling the delicious local foods and desserts.  My friends and I are always up for good food so this was the perfect end to our weekend trip to Hilo!

The event is held at Sangha Hall

Lots of yummy items to sample!
