C!RCA Review - Continues Tonight and Tomorrow!

C!RCA
Brisbane Company Circa is one of Australia’s greatest contemporary circus exports. The cast combines dance with physical theater to produce a combination of acrobatic and tumbling sequences which make up a show that’s extraordinarily energetic, powerful and sexy. Circa has been re-inventing circus as an art form since their creation by renowned director Yaron Lifshitz. Since 2006 Circa has toured to 24 countries across 5 continents, leaving audiences exhilarated at just what the human form can do.

I was fortunate to attend C!RCA at the Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall last night, and it was quite an amazing show!

For approximately 75 minutes, 7 individuals performed spectacular feats of strength, agility, and flexibility that were awe-inspiring.

There were no elaborate sets, no colorful costumes, and no words spoken.

With just the use of a few props and sometimes aided by music, the performers simply relied on their own physical strengths and that of their fellow performers to tell stories that were poetic and sometimes funny.

There were some segments that I thought were a lot more intriguing than others, specifically the more energetic ones, but even during the slower segments it was pretty incredible what the performers could do with their bodies.

There were bits of humor sprinkled throughout the show, but for the most part
C!RCA relied entirely on the physical and mental abilities of the performers to engage the audience.  There were moments I cringed (it seriously looked as if one performer was going to break while being swung like a jump rope), there were moments I laughed (what one performer does with a long piece of elastic was unexpected and very funny), and there were many, many moments I was simply in awe (the hula hoops performance was my fave!).

The 75 minutes went rather quickly, and once the finale ended, I thought about how these 7 performers jumped, twirled, flipped, danced, balanced, and more for over an hour.

That is pretty darn remarkable.

C!RCA continues tonight at 8pm and tomorrow at 2pm.

Tickets are available from the Blaisdell Box Office, charge by phone at 800-745-3000, from Ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets.

C!RCA is presented by Tim Bostock Productions, and is supported by KSSK Radio and Aqua Hotels and Resorts.

Complimentary tickets were provided for review purposes.
