Breakfast at Pizza Bob's - Haleiwa

We were recently in Haleiwa one morning, and since there weren't too many sit-down restaurants that were open at the time we were there, we ended up at Pizza Bob's.

DH got a Create Your Own Omelet with Spicy Beef, Jalapenos, and Bell Peppers, along with Wheat Toast.

I ordered the Sunrise Avocado Omelet and added Bacon (because everything tastes better with bacon!), along with Hash Browns.

It was very filling - I took half home to eat for dinner!

DS1 and DS2 both got the Kid's Banana Pancakes.
We ordered DS3 regular Pancakes.

Although we were a bit put-off by the huge flies in the dining room, the service was great, food was good, and it overall we had a nice meal!

Mauka Chinese Cuisine

We were recently invited to a friend's 40th birthday dinner at Mauka Chinese Cuisine.

The hosts ordered a 5-course dinner menu.

I'm not sure how much the restaurant charges for the 5-course menu, but during lunch they do offer really good, inexpensive plates.

The portions do seem small compared to other Chinese restaurants, but overall the food was tasty and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Souvaly Thai Cuisine Hawaii

For no specific reason, I've been eating a lot of Thai food lately. Last night I met up with @sagemom for dinner, and yes, we met at a Thai restaurant in Pearl City called Souvaly.

The service was good, the portions were a little on the smaller side, and the taste was, well, average.

The angel wings (stuffed chicken wings) were stuffed nicely with veggies, rice noodles and chicken, but there was a weird black stringy ingredient that didn't sit well with my taste buds.

The pad thai was a little too moist and mushy, and the chicken was almost like a garnish.

The spring rolls were crispy and delicious and the best part of the meal.

For dessert we asked the waiter what the most popular dessert on the menu was, and he said either the mango or the crispy banana. But, they were out if mangos so we had to settle for he crispy banana. It was a good choice, but I wish there was more of it. I took a picture of the entire plate so that you get an idea of how small it was. The presentation just emphasized the small-ness.

Hokulani Bake Shop

Cupcakes have grown in popularity over the past few years. In fact, the Food Network has a reality-show called Cupcake Wars where cupcakeries from all over the US compete against each other for $10,000.

Recently, Honolulu-based Hokulani Bake Shop won Cupcake Wars, Season 4, Episode 12. This will definitely put them on the map, if they aren't on it already.

They have three locations: Restaurant Row, Pioneer Plaza and the Hyatt Regency Waikiki. The pics below are taken of the shop in the Hyatt, which is open 7 days a week.

Ah Lang - Home of the Angry Korean Lady

For the low down on this place, just read the reviews at Yelp.com. You'll get the idea.

All I'll say right now is this:

1) Bring her beer (anything except Yellow Tail wine and Coors Lite)

2) Do not ask her questions

3) Do not take anything she says personal

4) Follow "the rules"

If you can handle the swearing and lack of service, but appreciate good Korean food, this is your restaurant.
