Shige's Saimin Stand

For years I've wanted to try Shige's Saimin Stand after a former co-worker would always tell me how much she loved the saimin (she would always order a saimin and hamburger), and I finally got a chance to go to Shige's the other day!

Since it was a hot day, I decided not to order saimin, but instead ordered the Fried Saimin.
I loved how it was topped with green onions, eggs, kamaboko, char-siu, and luncheon meat.  It was filling and tasty.  I would definitely eat it again!

DH wasn't that hungry so he just got a BBQ Cheeseburger Deluxe.
He enjoyed it!

I don't know when I'll be back again, but hopefully I'll be able to try the saimin the next time!

Fresh Catch - Kaimuki

The other week we took a trip to the East side of the island to run some errands, and decided to pick up lunch, but had no idea where to get lunch from, so I asked @nanigurl.

One venue she recommended was Fresh Catch.

DH ordered the special of the day (Wednesday)-Crab Stuffed Ahi Roll.
He loved it!  The employee at the counter said just about everyone loves the Wednesday special--it's one of the most popular dishes.

I admit it looked really good.  If I ate seafood, I would've definitely given it a taste.

But since I don't eat seafood, I ended up ordering Fried Chicken.

It didn't look like what I expected fried chicken to look like, but it was not bad--pretty tasty!

Thank you @nanigurl for the recommendation!

La Tour Cafe

Bale is well known for their freshly baked breads and Vietnamese food. When I heard that they were opening a new restaurant called La Tour Cafe, I wasn't that excited since I'm not a big fan of Vietnamese food. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that it's a completely different concept from their usual Vietnamese cuisine. You won't find any Pho or Summer Rolls at La Tour Cafe.

My friends tried the french onion soup. They said it was pretty good.

We are lovers of french fries and had to try them. They were crispy and seasoned nicely with salt and pepper.

The french dip sandwich was a winner. The bread was very soft and did not shred the roof of your mouth like many other french breads. The folks at Bale really know how to make good bread. The beef was medium rare, with a tinge of red. The au jus was perfect.

We will be returning soon to try their panini sandwiches and flat bread pizza!

Bull Kogi - Windward Mall

DH loves Korean food, so the last time we went to Windward Mall he picked up a BBQ Chicken and Meat Jun Combination Plate.

He liked the food--he ate everything on the plate!

If you like Korean food too, you may want to check out Bull Kogi!

Chuck E. Cheese's - Pearl City

After seeing a coupon in the paper for Chuck E. Cheese's, we decided to take DS2 since we knew he'd love to go on all the little rides.

The coupon was for a large 1 topping pizza and 100 tokens for $24.99.

We ended up getting a Pepperoni Pizza.

And also got an order of Bread Sticks.

We love the pizza from Chuck E. Cheese's (we've gone to many, many birthday parties there). And the Bread Sticks are really good too.

Unfortunately, DS2 did not eat at all because he was too distracted by the games and rides.

The cool thing is each ride/game is only 1 token!

Even though DS2 rode and played a lot, we still had so many tokens left over.

DS2 had a blast though, and I know he can't wait to go back.

Wah Kung

After a hitting session at the tennis courts at Tripler Army Medical Center one weekday evening, we needed to find a place to fill our empty stomachs . The only place to eat nearby was the food court at the former 99 Ranch Market in Mapunapuna. Since it was after 8 pm, most of the food vendors at the food court were already closed. However, Wah Kung, the only sit down restaurant in the complex, was still open for business.

Chicken with Black Bean Sauce

Crispy Gau Gee Cake Noodles

Salt & Pepper Pork Chops

The service is friendly and the food came out quick. I wouldn't consider this one of my favorite Chinese restaurants, but I felt like I got my money's worth.

Kapolei Golf Course Restaurant

Golf courses in Hawaii are notorious for having good food at their restaurants. Kapolei Golf Course is no exception. What I like about their restaurant is that they have a lot of Japanese food items on their menu, in addition to the usual local cuisine. Pictured here is their soba with tempura.

Even if you do not golf, you can still come and enjoy the good food and views of the fairways.

The restaurant is open from 6 am until closing (usually around sundown).
