Visit Hawai`i Island: Onomea Country Market & Cafe

Last year I first went to Onomea Country Market & Cafe.  I loved the smoothies, and I continually go for the delicious Onomea Sunrise smoothie - it is so refreshing and delish!

I did think the food was a bit overpriced, but I was in the area and wanted to give the food another try.

Local Moco
The Local Moco came with a kālua pork and kalo patty, egg, and gravy.  It was supposed to have an `ulu mash, but all there was was rice.  For $14, I thought this was pretty pricey.  I thought the texture of the patty was good, but it was a bit underseasoned.  I think was just a few tweaks to the recipe, it could really be exceptional.

They did not have any Fish Tacos as noted on the online menu (they specify "certain" Fridays and Saturdays - we were there on a Friday so I guess we were not there on the right Friday), so my friend got a Local Boy Plate.

It consisted of kālua pig, lomi tomato, potato mac, salad, & white rice.  He thought it was pretty good, although it was a little on the pricey side as well ($15).

I love that Onomea Country Market & Cafe supports local in so many ways - through the food, through offering other local shops' products for sale, through community events, educational programs, and so much more.

Although I think the food is pricey, what the Onomea Country Market & Cafe strives to do for the island is very commendable, and for that, I would recommend a visit to see what they have to offer (and get the smoothies!).
