Visit Hilo: Restaurant Osaka

A local chef had mentioned that Restaurant Osaka in Hilo is one of his faves, so I went to check it out!

Restaurant Osaka offers Japanese, Korean, and American menu items.  I opted for Japanese food.

Miso Soup

Combination Misoyaki Butterfish and Tonkatsu

Combination plates come with miso soup, rice, tsukemono, potato and macaroni salad, and tea.

Unlike other local-style Japanese restaurants I go to on O`ahu, Osaka serves only the miso soup first, and everything else comes in a huge platter (at my fave eateries that are similar to Osaka, the miso soup, tsukemono, salad gets served first, and then the main entrees).

In a way I thought this was a good idea, that way you don't get filled up on food before your entree arrives to the table, but on the other hand, when everything came at once, I ended up barely eating the tsukemono and salad.

I had the Chicken Katsu and Chicken Teriyaki, both of which I thought were good. The Katsu was a lot thinner than I normally like, and the teriyaki was cut into bite-sized pieces, but overall, they were tasty.

Osaka reminded me of my fave Japanese spots on O`ahu.

The service was great, and I hope I get to return to try out the Korean items!

Walk-ins only.
