For the past nine years, Murphy’s Bar & Grill has teamed up with Chris Day at Oahu Swim Academy and Hawaii Foodbank to host its annual Turkey Tailgate, a block party and fundraiser to provide meals to local families in need. This year, due to the current pandemic, the Turkey Tailgate is going virtual on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020, to prioritize the health and safety of the community.
During this year’s Turkey Tailgate, community members are invited to make online donations. A $10 donation can help provide food for 25 individual Thanksgiving meals, and a $25 donation can help sponsor a family’s Thanksgiving turkey dinner. This year’s goal is to raise $5,000 with all donations supporting Hawaii Foodbank’s mission to nourish Hawaii families. Providing an added incentive to give, Don and Marion Murphy will match the first $1,000 in donations.
“While the 9th annual Turkey Tailgate may look a little different this year, the goal is still the same to provide as many local families as possible with some Thanksgiving warmth, nourishment and aloha,” said Don Murphy, owner of Murphy’s Bar and Grill. “We may not be able to host a block party or turkey drop-off, but we can still come together as a community on November 19 to help those in need.”
“Thanksgiving is a time to reflect and give thanks, and we couldn’t be more thankful for Murph and his ongoing efforts to support Hawaii’s hungry, especially at a time when so many are struggling,” said Hawaii Foodbank President and CEO Ron Mizutani. “He is a true community hero.”
