KAHALA MKT. by Foodland Opening November 18

Indulge us for just a moment Kahala and imagine an awesome new neighborhood market unlike any you’ve experienced before – one that’s everything a market serving your active, diverse and dynamic community should be.

Introducing the fresh, local and delicious delights of KAHALA MKT. by Foodland and its all-day eatery, et al., opening at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18. Located on Waialae Avenue, across from Kahala Mall, and anchoring the new Kūʻono Marketplace at Kāhala – a retail and dining center developed by Kamehameha Schools – the newly imagined 13,000 square-foot store from Foodland Super Market, Ltd. offers an intimate, welcoming combination of neighborhood market, food destination and full-service eatery and bar. It’s a place where customers will discover delectable eats, curated natural and organic offerings, and tasty new dining adventures satisfying all of their food appetites.

“We are so excited to welcome the community to KAHALA MKT. by Foodland,” said Jenai S. Wall, Foodland Chairman and CEO. “This is a store our team can’t wait to open! Not only does it have amazing, new options for meals on-the-go and chef prepared basics to make cooking dinner a breeze, but it also has new discoveries and favorite necessities in every aisle. We hope it’s a store the community will love.”

KAHALA MKT. by Foodland is making the safety of its customers and employees a priority. From Wednesday, November 18 through Sunday, November 22 of the store’s opening week, customers who wish to receive priority entry are encouraged to reserve a shopping time at kahalamkt.com. Although walk-ins will be allowed in the store as space permits, booking online is highly recommended to avoid waiting in line. Everyone entering KAHALA MKT. by Foodland will be required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. In addition, customers may bring only one additional person into the store with them.

Introducing … et al.

KAHALA MKT. by Foodland’s gathering place is sure to be the store’s very own all-day, neighborhood eatery, et al. The Latin phrase et al. means “and others,” which speaks to the restaurant team’s desire to welcome and celebrate family, friends and community. And et al. will be a fantastic place to stop by for an exceptional bite to eat and to enjoy its imaginative Neo-American-style menu of multiregional dishes drawing inspiration from local produce and ingredients procured at their seasonal peak of flavor.

et al.’s menu was crafted by Chef de Cuisine and Oahu native Colin Sato, who most recently led the kitchen of the Beachhouse at the Moana restaurant in Waikiki. et al.’s cocktail menu was conceived by Foodland Corporate Mixologist Matt Rosskopf in partnership with the et al. dining room team, while the restaurant’s menu of delectable pastries and desserts was created by Pastry Chef Brian Sung. The eatery’s overall curation was overseen by Foodland Chief Food Officer and Corporate Chef Keoni Chang.

“Our vision was to create a restaurant where guests feel comfortable and relaxed the minute they set foot in the space, and a place where the neighborhood will gather for everyday dining and special occasions,” said Chang. “Our seasonal menu celebrating Hawaii and the flavors of the world is fresh and different, yet welcoming and familiar. We can’t wait for the community to taste and experience it!”

On et al.’s lunch menu, you’ll definitely want to taste the Hawaiian Clam Chowder with smoked meat, ulu (breadfruit) and, of course, lots of fresh clams. You’ll also want to try main entrées like et al.’s luscious claw-and-knuckle-meat-filled Lobster Roll or savory Hamakua Mushroom Risotto infused with truffle, nori and chervil. Come dinner you’ll crave Kauai Prawns and Linguine in spicy fra diavolo sauce and garlic butter, or Crispy Skin Salmon with smoked trout roe and seaweed butter. The Porchetta Pizza – topped with fontina and pecorino cheese, candied fennel and garlic cream – is an ambrosial et al. original, perfect with a starter of fresh Maui Beets crowned with local-produced Sweet Land Farms chevre and lemon basil pesto. And be sure to save room for the Bananamisu and its sweet molasses snap crumble, roasted marshmallows and coffee-syrup drizzle. Such an evening ender!

Bright and early each morning, et al. tempts you to wake up and settle down for fresh-baked breakfast items like Loaded Baked Potato Quiche and savory Croque Monsieur. Or you can choose from a menu of fun, inventive gourmet toasts. You’ll fall hard for the Zaatar-Cured Salmon Toast topped with chive crème fraiche, capers, pickled shallots and fresh dill. You’ll also love the Mexican Street Avo Toast with mashed fresh avocado, chile lime crema, cotija cheese, cilantro and corn puree. And where else could you possibly, at one brunch sitting, order both a Roasted Pork Belly Banh Mi – with giardiniera peppers, curry aioli, cucumber, cilantro and a local OK Farms fried egg – and a Roasted Pork Belly Benedict – with OK Farms poached egg and MA‘O Organic Farms greens on toasted ciabatta, topped with a hearty potage. If you’re craving a smaller breakfast – say, a coconut chia seed parfait, or a tempting side of smoked-meat fried rice – et al. has you covered, too. And don’t leave without savoring a cup of the custom et al. Kona Coffee Purveyor’s Blend.

Finally, what would a neighborhood gathering place for great food be without a superb menu of signature cocktails to accompany it all? et al. is home to an impressively stocked bar and served-all-day neighborhood-inspired cocktails like the Kahala Sunset and Hunakai Sling. The et al. bar even features a Spiked Sunrise menu of morning- and afternoon-ideal drink selections, including the Waialae Iced Tea, Black Point Iced Cold Brew and, yes, a three-flavor Mimosa Flight. (Good morning, indeed!) You’ll also find a thirst-quenching menu of fresh-made daily juices, coffees, teas, mocktails, draught and bottled beers, and a selection of wines and bubbles. And it’s all waiting for you at et al.!

WORKSHOP-HI was the architect for et al. restaurant and bar, and The Vanguard Theory designed the interior. Be sure to check out the locally inspired palaka and lei-printed bar stools created by local graphic designer Noa Emberson.

Now there’s only one thing left for you to do. Come visit!
