Hawai‘i’s premiere run for kids, the Keiki Great Aloha Run is part of the Hawai‘i Pacific Health Great Aloha Run, which is scheduled on Monday, February 17, 2020. This 8.15-mile foot race kicks off at 7:00 a.m. at Aloha Tower and finishes at the Aloha Stadium, with plenty of exciting festivities for the entire ohana.
“The Keiki Great Aloha Run allows kids of all ages to have fun while experiencing the joy of being healthy,” said Carole Kai Onouye, who founded the Keiki Great Aloha Run and continues to spearhead and organize the race through Carole Kai Charities, Inc. “It’s also a fabulous opportunity for keiki to raise funds that support their schools’ physical education classes, as well as nutrition education and physical activity programs.”
An amount of $15 per registration will be donated to the keiki’s school of choice, supporting healthy education programs. To be eligible, a minimum of 10 participants per school must register to qualify for the donation. Schools with less than 10 registrations will have their $15 per athlete allocated to the general P.E./Nutrition Fund. Last year, more than $17,000 was raised for local elementary schools.
“Keiki may have fun all weekend long, through the generosity of Wet’n’Wild Hawai‘i,” Onouye said. “The first 2,000 children who register will get a complimentary one-day ticket for entry into Wet’n’Wild on either Saturday February 8 or Sunday February 9, 2020. In addition to the complimentary ticket, the race participant will also receive two VIP coupons toward 50 percent off admission at Wet’n’Wild, for up to four people.”
This is the third year that Hawai‘i Pacific Health takes the lead as the title sponsor for the event. One of the state’s largest health care systems, Hawai‘i Pacific Health also provides and coordinates medical support along the Great Aloha Run course and in Aloha Stadium on race day, as well as for the Keiki Great Aloha Run, with more than 500 volunteers helping to ensure the health and safety of all participants.
Registration for the Keiki Great Aloha Run is open until midnight Hawai’i time on Friday, January 24, 2020. Race participants will be able to pick up their race packets on Saturday February 1, 2020 at The Running Room, at 819 Kapahulu Avenue, in Honolulu, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. for individuals and between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. for school coordinators.
