Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival (HFWF) is announcing two wine seminars
to join the 2019 event lineup.,putting the spotlight on French wines and
the always timely topic of pairing wines with Asian food. The seminars
are held back to back at Halekulani on Saturday, Oct. 26, starting at 9
a.m.
HFWF Wine Program Director Warren Shon ensures that the wines poured at
not only these seminars, but also each Festival event, aligns with
HFWF’s commitment to quality as the premier epicurean event in the
Pacific.
“As supporters of HFWF, it’s our goal to bring winemakers and
proprietors from all over the world to Hawai‘i to match the caliber of
culinary talent that is represented each year,” said Shon. “This year,
we are proud to showcase world-class wineries at all of the events,
culminating in two outstanding seminars featuring Master Sommeliers,
three of the best winemakers out of Corscia, and the ultra-allocated
wines of Jean-François Ganevat.”
The seminars are limited to 50 people each and offer once-in-a-lifetime wine tastings and education.
SOMM: Corsican Wine Discoveries
October 26, 2019 | 9:00am to 10:30am | $125
Halekulani
Join us for an awe-inspiring and awakening of the senses, as we travel,
discover and experience some of the most exciting wines from the
mountainous Mediterranean island of Corsica. Corsica is on record as
being one of the oldest wine-producing areas in all of Europe, producing
relatively unknown indigenous grape varieties, such as Niellucciu,
Sciaccarellu, Vermentino and Barbarossa.
Three of Corsica’s greatest wine producers will be travelling to Hawaii
to join us: Domaine Comte Abbatucci from the colorful city of Ajaccio,
Jean-Baptiste Arena from Patrimonio, and Domaine Giacometti from the
swath of land between Cap Corse and Calvi, on the northern end of the
island.
Jean-François Ganevat: The Wine Discovery of the Decade
October 26, 2019 | 10:45am to 12:15pm | $125
Halekulani
The Jura (nestled in between Burgundy and Switzerland) is home to some
forty different grape varietals with styles that are so different they
tend to shock the uninitiated. It is here, in this cool mountainous
region where vineyards are planted on slopes of varying altitudes and
gradients, where one vigneron Jean-François Ganevat has quietly been
producing wines that have every sommelier around the world scrambling to
obtain.
Jean-François Ganevat’s wines gravitate towards the Burgundian style,
likely from his years of working for both his father and the prestigious
Domaine Jean-Marc Morey in Chassagne-Montrachet. He is a master of his
craft and one of the true magicians of the eclectic. To say that his
grapes are spun into gold, would not be far from the truth; they are
entirely otherworldly.
Please join our panel of Master Sommeliers as they lead you down an
incredible path of discovery and enlightenment. You will not want to
miss it.
