Visit Maui: Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge

The 700-acre Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge on Maui is home to two of Hawaii's native and endangered birds - the Hawaiian coot and the Hawaiian stilt.

The refuge is also home to one of the last remaining natural wetlands in Hawaii.

While there we did see the native birds, and although there are paths allowing you to walk around the different ponds, the day we visited it was too hot and humid to do any walking (although I did see other tourists make the trek).

If you love nature or birds, and want to learn a little about the history of the area, the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge is worth a look.  Perhaps on a future visit to Maui, on a much cooler day, I'll take the time to peruse the entire grounds.
