Big Island Candies Launches a New Hawaiian Salt Cookie in Conjunction with Japanese Culinary Personality Harumi Kurihara

One of Hawaii’s most esteemed brands in gourmet cookies, Big Island Candies is proud to announce a new product crafted in collaboration with Japanese culinary personality Harumi Kurihara. Harumi’s Hawaiian Salt Cookies will be released in Big Island Candies’ Ala Moana store at 4:00 p.m. on May 10, 2019 (it will be available in Hilo on May 11)—just in time for Mother’s Day. The celebrated homemaker and television personality will also be in-store at the Ala Moana location for the launch, as she hosts an autograph session from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The collaboration came as a result of a friendship built over the past few years. After jointly developing a recipe for a cookie incorporating the balancing flavor of Hawaiian salt—an ingredient Kurihara holds dear—the confection company is ready to launch this new confection in its Ala Moana store priced at $18.95 for a dozen cookies. Harumi’s Hawaiian Salt Cookies will be packaged in gift boxes donning Kurihara’s signature blue and white stripes.

Harumi Kurihara will meet and greet fans for a few hours on May 10, as she signs advance copies of her soon-to-be-released English cookbook “Harumi,” a special gift for those who make a minimum purchase of $150 worth of Big Island Candies products (including at least one box of Harumi’s Hawaiian Salt Cookies). This arrangement will not be in conjunction with any other promotions, and is limited to one per customer. Cookbook quantities are limited, so those customers who receive a cookbook with the $150 purchase will secure an opportunity to meet Harumi Kurihara. Any customers purchasing boxes of Harumi’s Hawaiian Salt Cookies, including those who do not receive a cookbook, are welcome to wait in line for an autograph on up to two items.

“We are blessed that our dear friend Harumi Kurihara selected our company with which to develop her gourmet cookie,” says Sherrie Holi, President/COO of Big Island Candies. “And we are extremely fortunate and grateful that she has agreed to volunteer her time to meet our staff and customers to inaugurate the launch of this new product.”

Big Island Candies’ Ala Moana store is located on the street level of Ala Moana Center, 1450 Ala Moana Blvd., near the Center Court. It is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. For more information, please call the Ala Moana store at (808) 946-9213 or visit the website at www.bigislandcandies.com.
