Score a Once-in-a-Lifetime View Going Over the Edge for Special Olympics Hawaii

Feel the thrill of giving as you go Over the Edge for the 10th Annual Special Olympics Hawaii fundraiser benefiting athletes with intellectual disabilities. Registration is now open for this unique event taking place on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa. Participants will rappel more than 400 feet down the side of the iconic hotel, while enjoying the breathtaking views of Waikiki and Diamond Head, along with raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics Hawaii.

“We value our ongoing partnership with Special Olympics Hawaii and are thrilled to be able to support this event not just as a site sponsor but also by providing rooms and other benefits to these fundraisers who are doing so much to raise funds for our athletes with intellectual disabilities,” said Doug Sears, General Manager for Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa. “We take pride in hosting this event every year and helping to build a warm, welcoming space and share the inclusive aloha spirit with participants, guests and supporters.”

Over the Edge is a crowd favorite and the limited slots will fill up quickly so interested parties are strongly encouraged to sign up today at www.sohawaii.org. All participants are asked to raise a minimum of $1,000 in donations, must be 18 years of age by the day of the event, and weigh less than 300 pounds.

Early bird registration runs through Friday, September 7, 2018 and includes a 50 percent discount off the $100 registration fee. After September 7, 2018 the registration fee is $100 per participant. Thrill-seekers will receive a 2018 Over the Edge t-shirt. Additional prizes will be available to those who raise more than the $1,000 minimum.

All monies raised from the 10th Annual Over the Edge will remain in Hawaii to support local athletes across the state. Since 2009, Over the Edge has raised more than $1,158,191 for Special Olympics Hawaii athletes and programs.

“This is a big year for us as we celebrate 50 years of providing programs for our athletes and a decade of sending brave participants Over the Edge,” said Nancy Bottelo, Special Olympics Hawaii president and CEO. “We look forward to another great year providing a terrific experience for participants at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa.”

Those who wish to support Special Olympics Hawaii but are unable to go Over the Edge can make a donation at https://www.firstgiving.com/event/SpecialOlympicsHawaii/Over-The-Edge-2018. This year’s Over the Edge event hopes to raise $140,000 for Special Olympics Hawaii.
