Chronic Tacos to Open First Hawaii Location

Southern California based Chronic Tacos is set to open its first Hawaii location on Saturday, October 28th at 888 Kapahulu Avenue in the Safeway Kapahulu complex. Customers can expect delicious third-generation Mexican recipes with all fresh, locally sourced ingredients made from scratch throughout the day. Menu items include burritos, tostada bowls, salads and, of course, tacos. With the highest quality ingredients and a wide variety of authentic Mexican flavors, hungry patrons can choose from carne asada (steak), pollo asado (chicken), carnitas (slow cooked pork), al pastor (spicy marinated pork), and fresh pico de gallo and guacamole, all fresh, delicious, and any way they want it. Customers can also order grilled or beer battered fish made baja style. Hours of operation will be daily from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Franchise owners Tim McDowell and Mike Wahrenbrock have been in Hawaii for the past several weeks finalizing the build out of the restaurant, as well as hiring and training the new staff of fourteen. The local management team is led by veteran restauranteur Eric Leon. 20% of the proceeds from the day of grand opening will benefit the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation’s ʻĀINA in Schools Program. There will be special grand opening festivities from 4 – 6:00 p.m., with musical entertainment, free tacos and prize giveaways. "We’re so excited to share our authentic Mexican food experience with the people of Oahu, which is such a unique and special place. Chronic Tacos is all about the ‘taco life’ and the laid-back atmosphere and culture of Hawaii is the perfect place for this fast-casual restaurant concept.”

Company founder and owner Randy Wyner has also been here leading the training of the staff. “We’re stoked to be in Hawaii! We’ve wanted to bring the Taco Life to the islands for a long time— to have this opportunity with great operators that have local knowledge makes it even better,” says Wyner.
