Mahina & Sun's is Looking for the Best Adobo Recipe to Celebrate Filipino American Heritage Month

In honor of Filipino American Heritage Month, Mahina & Sun’s restaurant, located in the Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club, is inviting the public to compete in its pork adobo cook-off contest. Chef Ed Kenney will add the winning dish to his eclectic menu offerings at the award-winning Mahina & Sun’s.

“We are celebrating not only a special part of my heritage, but that of restaurant manager Natalie Aczon and hotel general manager Lynette Pan McDonald,” said Kenney. “We are a melting pot of cultural traditions and experiences and we want to make sure the food reflects that in our menu. Local people know great adobo and we want to find the best.”

During the week of Oct. 10-16, Mahina & Sun’s will accept 10 oz. or 2.5 cups in a sealed container of each entrant’s cooked pork adobo. The sample must come with typed recipe card with the entrant’s name, phone number and email address.

The top three finalists will be notified and asked to present their dish to a panel of judges including chef Kenney and guest chef Sheldon Simeon, another Filipino American chef, from Bravo’s Top Chef at the premier of the Philippines episode of Kenney’s Family Ingredients on Oct. 18, 2017 at Mahina & Sun’s. The winner will have their recipe featured on the Mahina & Sun’s dinner menu.
