Japanese Supermarket Mitsuwa Marketplace Opens First Hawaii Location at International Market Place

Mitsuwa Marketplace, the largest Japanese supermarket chain in the country, enters the Hawaii market with its first store opening at International Market Place on Monday, May 15.

The new 9,980-square-foot establishment is located on Level 2 near Saks Fifth Avenue and offers a variety of Japanese groceries, general items, electric appliances, cosmetics and more. This opening marks the supermarket chain’s eleventh store location in the United States.

“Mitsuwa Marketplace is an exciting and unique addition to our dining and retail lineup,” said Michael Fenley, general manager of International Market Place. “Guests have an opportunity to experience an authentic taste of Japan in a quick, convenient shopping option.”

In-store features include:
  • Sushi and bento selection, made with a special sushi vinegar (non-MSG) and premium rice from Japan
  • Food court featuring restaurants specializing in popular Japanese favorites
  • Snacks and drinks, along with a small section of ready-made microwavable meals and small dishes for customers to enjoy.
